The End Of SAP BW As We Know It – Mobile Apps – Java Or ABAP

I’ve been going through some of the latest blog post regarding SAP and I want to share the best of the bunch for today.

First up we have Thomas Dulaney who has written a good blog post over on the SCN website discussing how existing SAP professionals can pivot their career by learning new SAP skills. He considers both the functional and technical roles and highlights some of the difficulties in training yourself up.

FAQ: Java vs. ABAP Programming Careers

… I’m a strong JAVA programmer, how can I switch to SAP? Can I become a Functional consultant? I’ve seen a few questions lately from JAVA programmers who want to start a career in SAP programming or switch to Functional SAP Consulting. Next up, this Enterprise meets Apps news story shines a light on a new area of SAP development. … SAP announced partnerships with Appcelerator, Adobe and Sencha to create any type of mobile presence that an enterprise might wish. From native to cross apps or mobile websites, SAP may have put itself in position to be the end-to-end development platform that enterprises are looking for.

HTML5 as the Enterprise

Enterprise mobile development and consumer counterparts both are different. The uncertainty of SAP BW future

… From one point of view – SAP delivers to the market new products and solutions which will properly will bring more projects, on the other hand SAP new solutions seems to replace the current solution’s like BW , those solution’s brings us to a uncertainty about the future of BW.

I think that it is on SAP responsibility to tell the BW community how they want the BW community to play in those changes and whether we need to acquire new skill set or at least diminishes our worries about the future of BW.when we take into account the decreasing market rates, when we see that the customer requirement’s is for fast & slim solutions , when you see SAP new products and solution, the SAP BW community needs to adjust to the new SAP environment , acquire more skill set and think about the next 2-5 years today…

Personally I don’t think the future of BW is in question one little bit. Sure, things may change in how BW is used to deliver business reporting but I can only see the change being for the good of BW.

Technology evolves and as my role involves developing BW solutions I thoroughly believe we must evolve with it. We must take the opportunity to stay at the forefront of our profession.

Don’t wait for SAP to tell you what to do, go out there and do what you think is best. SAP will always introduce new technologies but it is the end customer that relies on it’s trusted in-house teams and trusted consulting partners that will ultimately determine what technology is used and wins over the long run.

It’s all good stuff. Embrace the changes in technology and become a leader.
